The heritage of Lucchini RS Group in Surahammar, Sweden, goes all the way back to 1866. The craftmanship is still maintained and focused on the manufacture of high-quality railway wheels, tyres, and axles for all applications.

Another strenght of Lucchini Sweden lies in its advanced maintenance solutions for wheelsets, gearboxes, and bogies, also thanks to its expertise in non-destructive tests, like Ultrasonic testing and magnetic powder inspection.

As leader in Swedish industry, almost all trains operating around this Country are equipped with railway components from Lucchini Sweden. Experience gatheed in railway industry over nearly 160 years is not easy to find elsewher.

Lucchini Sweden’s Milestones

Surahammar north of Västerås in Sweden is an old mill town. The mill’s roots go hundreds of years back.

17th century

Surahammar Mill was established. From the beginning Surahammar Mill made bar iron and later became famous for sheet metal and train wheels.

1865

The Director General pf the Royal Board of the Swedish Railway writes to the mill owner at the Surahammar Mill, Mr. Zethelius to inquire about the manufacture of raily components.

1866

Mr. Zethelius responded favorably to the inquiry. The first railway component delivered from the Surahammar Mill was a wheel.

Early 1900

The mill was acquired by ASEA, that became ABB in 1988.

1996

Adtranz was formed as a joint venture between ABB and Daimler-Benz. The JV took over in Surahammar.

2000

Adtranz and the mill in Surahammar was sold to Bombardier. At the same time, Lucchini RS stepped in and established a presence in Sweden through the acquisition of the Surahammar Mill from Bombardier.

2006

Lucchini RS Group invested in new reprofiling machine in the Swedish plant.

2010

Lucchini RS Group decided to introduce the Lean Manufacturing in the Swedish plant.

2014

Lucchini RS Group extended the plant in Sweden.

2019

Lucchini Sweden delivered the first boggie order.
